What is this Python project?

Skyfield is a pure Python astronomy package that makes it easy to generate high precision- research grade positions for planet and earth satellites.

-Written in pure python and it installs without any compilation -Supports Python 2.6, 2.7 and 3. -Compute geocentric positions -Obtain topocentric coordinates from a specific location on the Earth’s surface to the desired planet. -Will accept Astropy time objects as input and return results in AstroPy units.

What's the difference between this Python project and similar ones?

Similar to Astropy, Skyfield can chart the morning and evening sky for a particular planet, such as the apparition of Venus.
